About the Artist

Fitzhugh Karol (b. 1982) was born in Lebanon, New Hampshire in 1982. He graduated from Skidmore College in 2004 before working as an apprentice with ceramic artist Toshiko Takaexu in Quakertown, New Jersey. Karol received his MFA in Ceramic Sculpture from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2007, during which time his work began to incorporate wood and metal elements. He has worked as an exhibiting sculptor and designer, integrating sculpture within landscape and architecture, as well as designing furniture, jewelry, and architectural spaces. He has previously exhibited at the Bartow-Pell Museum, Socrates Sculpture Park, the LongHouse Reserve, Rochester Contemporary Arts Center, The Aidron Duckworth Museum, and a forthcoming exhibition of two large steel sculptures in Prospect Park, Brooklyn in the fall of 2017.
