The Dylan on Fifth Avenue is a luxury residential building in Midtown that offers a quiet retreat in a bustling neighborhood. They wanted artwork to warm up the previously stark lobby and fireplace. Uprise artist Christina Watka’s site-specific porcelain installation emphasizes the lobby’s natural light and atmosphere by using low-relief sculptural undulation to encourage a visual conversation between density, mass, lightness, and air.
“Christina installed during busy hours so that residents could experience the work develop into a final complete piece as they came and went.”
“The artist took hints from the existing surfaces and textures in the space: stone, fabric, leather and marble.”
