During his Uprise Art x MacArthur Place residency, Adrian Kay Wong found inspiration in the slow pace of the secluded Sonoma grounds, which afforded ample time for exploration, reflection, and meditation.

In this series of oil paintings on paper, Adrian captures the nuances of architecture and landscape surrounding MacArthur Place. With a particular focus on the directional light at different times of day, Adrian's work highlights quiet undisturbed moments that occur beyond our attention.

These paintings were made during my stay at The MacArthur Place Residency in Sonoma. My time there allowed me the freedom to take a slower approach to my art-making.

There was a particular casualness where I had the freedom to wander their grounds and take in my surroundings that does not come often in my usual practice. It was an opportunity for quiet and undisturbed observation.
