“The "Chatterbox" series is a composition inspired by origami fortune-tellers we used to play with as kids. Like the prophecies themselves, iterations within the series are independent outcomes controlled by structure but guided by chance. Inks transferred from carved wooded surfaces stack figure/ground color combinations that resolve each triangular section separately. Brought together by collage, each artwork goes beyond the typical "artist's print," and exists as a unique work on paper within the composition series.” — Matt Neuman
Matt Neuman (b. 1985) is a painter and printmaker based in Brooklyn, NY. During his MFA at Boston University Neuman began to focus his attention on basic geometric interactions and continues to probe geometry as a means of providing structural logic that resonates with humanity's instinctive tendency to organize information. Influences like physics, origami, space-time, and the infinite picture as themes in his ongoing exploration of line, color, and repetition.
