Using a set of simple, playful rules and the creation of a protocol powered by aleatory, I can create generative pieces both in the studio and in the public space. These "scripts" allow me to play with uncertainty while maintaining an aesthetically coherent result.

About the Artist

eltono

Eltono (b. 1975) is an artist based in Belvès, France working in a range of media including printmaking, sculpture, and public art. A self described flâneur and habitual observer, Eltono has used public space as a support, studio and source of inspiration. In transitioning his graffiti and mural work to an indoor studio practice, Eltono turned to a generative process, often employing a drawing machine, to set boundaries and obstructions in his creative process. Mirroring the numerous uncontrollable circumstances in creating public art, playing with the amount of constraints and loss of control is an active reference to creating art outside the studio in a space where the artist is directly influenced by the unpredictability and spontaneity of the environment.
