Ahead of her exhibition at Art Central Hong Kong, we tour Senem Oezdogan's Brooklyn studio for a look at her new series of abstracted floral stills.

In these paintings, Senem began by creating a series of sketches which she then cut up and collaged back together. The resulting paintings elude to botanical forms, and growth, but also exist as formal studies in abstraction.

The minimalist compositions in these new works balance structural harmony, subtle details and playfulness with a controlled color palette. White contrasted against bold accents of color create sculpture-like stand-alone forms.

An important element in creating these works has been the preliminary collage sketches that proceeded these paintings. Forms change when we tear them apart and rearrange them. Multiple shapes and contents coexist and create a new pictorial reality and with that a metamorphosis takes place.
