City Guide: New York
Armory Week is here, and the art world is back in session. Between fairs and events, these are our New York team's go-to spots, from Chinatown to Long Island City. Scroll to the end for a short list of the week's fairs and events is at the end. Happy art week!
Chinatown: Stop by The River or Lei for a drink and a quick bite. After you've had a few too many, mosey over to Eliz Digital for some photographic evidence. With a group, head to Shanghai21 or Peking Duck House and order a little of everything to share. For a classic Hong Kong-style meal, try Mabu.
Tribeca: Start with a coffee and croissant at Rigor Hill Market, then browse design showrooms Quarters and Casa Valle. For dinner, book a table at Farra or The Odeon, a Tribeca staple for a reason.
Lower East Side / Two Bridges: Pop into Beverly 1975 and Coming Soon for some window shopping. Have a post-fair drink at Bar Belly, followed by breakfast-for-dinner at Golden Diner or Kopitiam.
South Street Seaport: Stroll the greenway for sweeping views of the East River and Brooklyn Bridge, then head up to the rooftop at Pier 17 for a bird’s-eye view. Learn about New York's maritime history at the South Street Seaport Museum (yes, you can ride the boats). Hit Fish Market for dive bar happy hour and Malaysian bites.
NoHo: Browse the shelves of Dashwood for rare and out-of-print photo books. Sip a cocktail at Holiday Cocktail Lounge and pretend you're in Past Lives, or kick up some sawdust at McSorley's. Delight in a dosa from the legendary dosa man, Kandaswamy Thirukumar, in Washington Square Park, or snag a table at Fish Cheeks for Thai seafood.
Hudson Yards: Start your morning with coffee and pastries at Urbana Cafe, checking out a few Chelsea galleries as you head north to the Armory Show at the Javits Center. Debrief over dinner at the Frying Pan and enjoy views of the water.
Upper East Side: Pay a visit to the newly reopened (can we still say that?) Frick and then head over to Sotheby's for Independent 20th Century. Afterwards, head downstairs to Marcel and enjoy the best onion soup of your life served beside vitrines full of jewels. Finish with a nightcap at Bemelmans Bar.
Long Island City: Take the ferry to the Long Island City stop. Check out the latest exhibition at Culture Lab LIC. Go antiquing at Remix Market NYC. Treat yourself to a boba and rice roll at I’Milky 沐白 - Long Island City or a drink at 56709, a Cantopop bar hidden behind Gulp.
