Exhibition: Carla Weeks at Adaptations: Thumbnail

Carla Weeks is a Philadelphia-based artist and designer who uses pattern as a vehicle to describe place. Inspired by the architecture of Taos, New Mexico, Weeks’ new oil paintings use color and pattern to create abstract architectural elements that provide geometric rhythm. Her use of corbels, the unique wooden posts of adobe architecture, are commentary on the appropriation of these symbols from traditional architecture to new, modern constructions in the American Southwest.

Carla Weeks (b. 1985) is an Arrowsic, Maine-based artist using abstraction to articulate the subtleties and nuance of sensory memory. In Carla’s work, color, line, and form function as glyphs to navigate through the physical and emotional experience of place. Carla’s quiet reflections on the immateriality of memory are a testament to her commitment to careful looking, feeling and existing within the present moment.
