I often begin with images collected from my surroundings, particularly during walks and everyday journeys between the forest and the urban neighborhoods that border it. These images become references that are fragmented, transformed, and reassembled through painting.
About the Artist
Pedro Gutierres (b. 1987) is a São Paulo–based artist whose paintings and drawings explore the tension between nature and urban life. Drawing from photography, video, and digital image manipulation, he transforms fragments of reality (vegetation, abandoned objects, and traces of human presence) into ambiguous landscapes where the natural and built environments blur. Through accumulation, erasure, and interruption, Pedro uses the physical process of painting to create spaces that feel at once familiar and estranged.
