My methodology is collage-based, so I work with photographs that have already been produced or I take them myself. I work with objects too, making them or re-contextualizing them to give them new meanings.
About the Artist
Maria de la O Garrido (b. 1985) is a Spanish artist working in the intersection of photography, sculpture, collage, and recently video and performance art. When she first moved from Andalucía to London she worked as a life model to gain access to creative communities without a perfect command of English. Her practice draws from these early experiences, positioning objects and bodies - both her own and others' - in situations that ask the viewer to renegotiate their perceptions. Her sculptural still life practice likewise reimagines common and unfamiliar objects in fantastical ways, like her series Making love With the Things I Hate, where plastic household items are transformed into vases for flower arrangements. She currently lives and works in London.
