My practice is based in and always informed by perceptual drawings and painting made from direct observation via daily sketchbook practice, as well as still life and plein air painting. I am a believer in the benefit of deep observational practices for maintaining acuity and cultivating a sense of attention, my own subjectivity, and sensuous, embodied knowing.

About the Artist

20260810 162051

Kat Spears (b. 1992) is a multimedia artist based in Berea, Kentucky, whose work explores porous boundaries and dissolving edges between subjects within a painting. Drawing from art history, literature, philosophy, and autobiography, they use personal experience to consider essential truths and the complexities of intimacy and perception. Their paintings emerge through a process of repeatedly building and destroying images, layering nascent forms and fully realized compositions into dense, shifting fields.
