Jaime Derringer (b. 1978) is a self-taught artist who creates abstract paintings and mixed media works engaging with chance. Derringer's pieces run the gamut stylistically, from reticent ink paintings that build on discrete gestures to colorful, highly-patterned thickets of mark-making. Her paintings take inspiration from Japanese calligraphy, 1980s and 90s graphics, undersea creatures, science fiction, architecture, and plated food. In all of her work, Derringer allows one decision to inform another until the composition completes itself. Originally from the East coast, she currently lives and works in San Diego, California. She is also the Founder of Design Milk, a popular design website.
