Teresa Christiansen (b. 1978) was born and raised in New York, NY. Her photographs are made in the studio, where she cuts, folds, glues and reconstructs photographic prints that she then re-photographs to create disorienting effects. Originally trained as a painter, Christiansen’s work references the historic relationship photography has had with painting through the genres of still life and landscape. Her recent series Beauty Spots and Natural Selections both work with views of overlooked fragments of the natural world, considering the repetition of images that are generated through our impulse to photograph the landscape. Christiansen’s work has been exhibited widely, and is in the collection of the Portland Art Museum in Portland, OR where she currently lives and works.
