Carmen Vela (b.) is a mixed-media artist whose drawing and collages create vocabulary around figure, space and time. Through repetitive iterations the artist combines drawing, imagery collection and editing techniques to create a conceptual composition. This assemblage of different forms pays homage to the history of collage and thus creates a new whole for the viewer to decipher. Carmen Vela was raised in Andalucia, Spain. After studying in Spain and the Netherlands she moved to London to work as a designer, completing a Masters in Communication Design at Central Saint Martins University. Vela combines her work as an independent art director and designer with her personal art practice. She is currently based in Brooklyn.
