“I wanted to challenge myself and reduce, reduce, reduce. I intended to allude to three-dimensional (but imagined) forms, as minimally as possible Minimal relative to me and my experience.” — Will Hutnick

About the Artist

File 137082

Will Hutnick (b.1985) uses mixed media to question ideas about chance, method, and materiality. Process figures heavily in his work, combining additive and reductive tactics to create imagery that appears unearthed rather than applied with brush. His strong sense of color and shape has obvious valences with cartography and topography, in addition to geology, textile, and printmaking. Hutnick received a BA from Providence College and his MFA from Pratt Institute. He has curated and exhibited across the country, and his work has appeared in New American Paintings.
