“In my work I like to play with depth and scale, allowing shallow space to feel massive, and vice-versa.” — Tyler Scheidt
Working primarily with painting and collage, San Francisco-based artist Tyler Scheidt (b. 1988), works viscerally to create abstract paintings that explore the multifarious relationships between objects, space, and how they parallel the human experience. After years of working as a printmaker, Scheidt shifted towards painting, which allowed him to work more organically as opposed orderly and systematically, producing paintings with decisive layers, and dynamic ranges of texture, line, color, and collage. The artist describes painting as “limitless,” where change and progression can occur naturally. Scheidt received his MFA in painting and printmaking from Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston in 2013 and has exhibited throughout the United States.
