“I have developed several processes for making my work that include cutting, masking, and collaging so as to preserve the feeling of spontaneity. The act of cutting and reworking creates a push and pull between the foreground and background giving the impression that many moments and actions are happening simultaneously.” — Trina Turturici

Trina Turturici (b.1986) is a Los Angeles based artist working in drawing, painting, and sculpture. Her process involves alternating between working spontaneously and from direct observation, which results in an uncanny and surreal portrayal of everyday life. Using a blend of varied forms, textures and colors, she creates otherworldly dreamscapes out of simple objects and figures. Her works are infused with symbols, messages and imagery, both purposeful and accidental. Turturici was born in 1986 in San Jose, California. She received her BFA in Drawing and Painting from CSU Long Beach in 2010 and her MFA in Painting from Boston University in 2013.
