“A longtime fan of fiber arts and weaving, I wanted to create abstract pieces from rope - which could be made without a loom. With this work, I had the freedom to approach the pieces like paintings from all sides and without the restriction of a fixed grid.” — Senem Oezdogan

Senem Oezdogan (b. 1980) is a Brooklyn-based mixed media artist whose works meditate relationship between the aesthetic and functional value of an image. Influenced by architecture and the built environment, her fiber-based geometric studies feature straight lines and woven shapes that create depth and texture and convey a softness of fabric or tapestry. The artist’s works function as a vehicle by which viewers can observe the world through form and color. Oezdogan studied Communication Design and Illustration at the Fashion Institute of Technology.
