“My goaI is to make work that is an invitation to observe the world through form and color. To discover elements of reality – depth, flatness, tension, structure, color and time – using materials that are accessible and tactile. Emphasizing elements of the work that are not just about pure geometry but also about preserving a textural quality that conveys the softness of fabric or tapestry.” — Senem Oezdogan
Senem Oezdogan (b. 1980) is a Brooklyn-based mixed media artist whose works meditate relationship between the aesthetic and functional value of an image. Influenced by architecture and the built environment, her fiber-based geometric studies feature straight lines and woven shapes that create depth and texture and convey a softness of fabric or tapestry. The artist’s works function as a vehicle by which viewers can observe the world through form and color. Oezdogan studied Communication Design and Illustration at the Fashion Institute of Technology.
