“The material allows me to discuss formal qualities without using the language of painting. The process of wrapping represents the physical tension in the work, while the visual tension is provided by the composition.” — Senem Oezdogan
Senem Oezdogan (b. 1980) is a Brooklyn-based mixed media artist whose works meditate relationship between the aesthetic and functional value of an image. Influenced by architecture and the built environment, her fiber-based geometric studies feature straight lines and woven shapes that create depth and texture and convey a softness of fabric or tapestry. The artist’s works function as a vehicle by which viewers can observe the world through form and color. Oezdogan studied Communication Design and Illustration at the Fashion Institute of Technology.
