“The past decade has been the most productive in my career so far and this collection is not only the result of the hours that I have spent on it, but rather a reflection of every work that I have ever created. The signature elements that I have been tweaking and re-tweaking for the past ten years have gained new perspective through reflection, making this collection a symbolic pit stop to the present day.” — Rubin 415
Born to Finnish immigrant workers living in Sweden, Brooklyn-based Tony “Rubin” Sjöman (b.1975), was raised in a working class housing project in Gothenburg, surrounded by grey concrete and tram tunnels. This gritty upbringing is a primary source of inspiration for his work, often combining elements of a hectic metropolis contrasted with the serenity of Nordic nature. His complex, abstract geometrical works, rooted in a traditional graffiti style, feature muted color palettes and clean lines. Rubin 415 has become a staple of the New York City street art scene and has put his trademark on concrete and brick all over the world - from his native Scandinavia to Thailand and Miami Art Basel. Rubin’s studio work has been displayed at Scope New York, Scope Miami and in galleries throughout New York City, Miami, and Los Angeles.
