About the Artist

File 83593

Rachel Garrard (b. 1984) was born in Devon, UK and studied at Central Saint Martins before pursuing her MFA at Byam Shaw School of Art. Her paintings encapsulate complex systems of reference to the body, geometry, and ritual. Working with materials like natural dyes or soil, these layered works reflect a subtle attention to the accumulated charge of her materials and their potential beyond the rationality of pigment. Her recent work has included video, performance, drawing, sculpture, and printmaking, and has been exhibited nationally. Garrard lives and works in New York City.
