“My friend, the talented Taylor Patterson from Fox Fodder Farm, created the florals that inspired this composition. Floral arrangements cannot be preserved, and I love exploring that concept in painting. I enjoy being able to capture something fleeting, that is in a state of natural flux, through an enduring gesture.” — Erin Lynn Welsh
Erin Lynn Welsh (b. 1984) paints the American landscape from personal photographs taken throughout the United States. Welsh’s paintings fall into two ongoing bodies of work: an ethereal landscape series that investigates ideas of the sublime, and a more aggressive and gestural series that explores the spontaneous nature of mark-making and its convergence and divergence with the unpredictability of nature itself. Her continued interest in the natural, be it landscape or the human form, at times combine to generate synthetic meditations, where the “gestures” of botany are cast in skin tones.
Welsh graduated from Pratt with a BFA in Photography, which underscores the varied and intersecting nature of her painting practice, as well as her conceptual and technical interests. She currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
