“It’s less about what the paintings literally resemble and more about allowing for a multitude of interpretations - withholding just enough information to provide an image that intersects with something and nothing.” — Clay Mahn
Clay Mahn (b.1988) lives and works in Chicago, Illinois. He recently received his MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s department of Painting and Drawing. His practice engages elements of language, abstraction, and gesture through a precarious and playful use of simplistic motifs and relationships. Recent solo exhibitions include Bad Habits at FalseFront in Portland, OR, Autoportrait at PLHK in Chicago, Illinois, and Left, Right, Left at TW Fine Art in Brisbane, Australia. Mahn was born in Missoula, Montana and received his BFA from The University of Montana’s College of Visual and Performing Arts in 2012.
