About the Artist

Anthony cudahy

Anthony Cudahy (b. 1989) primarily works from found photographs to create paintings wholly original and emotionally complex. The artist is interested specifically in what he calls “image histories,” and explores the transformation and degradation an image is subjected to, which through reproduction creates a new language with codes and signifiers. When Cudahy appropriates a certain image and translates it into a painting the result is both an iteration and an interpretation, as the finished work, with lively brush strokes and large blocks of color, becomes another chain in the image’s lineage. Cudahy received his BFA from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn and his work has appeared in shows across the Eastern United States and the UK.
