Amelia Midori Miller (b. 1985) creates abstract paintings inspired by her upbringing in a densely populated urban setting. The notion of “obstruction” is an important element in her work, as at any given point within a city, there are a multitude of fences, barricades, windows, and architecture blocking a complete view. The artist takes this idea and creates works based loosely on the layering of objects and landscapes she experiences. Her paintings incorporate a universality and focus on formal issues such as light and space through composition and form. Midori Miller received her MFA in Fine Arts at the School of Visual Arts, New York in 2012 and her BFA in Fine Arts with Honors from the School of Visual Arts, New York in 2007. She has exhibited nationally and abroad, and her work has been featured both online and in various publications.
