“Rainbow Unicorn is part of a series of sculptural wall pieces that use highlight and shadow to define form. Inspired by the way animals are camouflaged in nature, the surface of the wood is painted white to blend the form in with the wall [behind it]. The distance of the piece from the wall creates a silhouette, while a flourescent painted treatment to the back surface of the work reflects a neon halo of bright color. Colored glass rods form the horn of the unicorn, extending playfully from the piece.” — Abby Goodman

About the Artist

Abby Goodman (b. 1972) creates sculptures, paintings, and mixed media installations to share her experiences. Using found objects, reconstituted components, and natural materials, she develops an iconographic language unique to her imaginary autobiographical universe, complete with beautiful beasts, barren landscapes, and a cavalcade of misfit champions. Goodman uses this illusive world as a platform to address the human condition, often associating animal imagery with the human spirit.
