Abby Goodman (b. 1972) creates sculptures, paintings, and mixed media installations to share her experiences. Using found objects, reconstituted components, and natural materials, she develops an iconographic language unique to her imaginary autobiographical universe, complete with beautiful beasts, barren landscapes, and a cavalcade of misfit champions. Goodman uses this illusive world as a platform to address the human condition, often associating animal imagery with the human spirit.Read Full Bio
Recent exhibitions include: The Wishing Tree, a solo exhibition at the Brooklyn Arts Council; Party At Lucky Chengs, a solo exhibition at the LZ Project Space in the New York Studio Gallery; An Island Now Peopled, a two-person show at the Chashama Chelsea Project Space, New York; and We Come From Brooklyn at Aller Art Gallery, Bludenz, Austria. Additionally, Goodman’s work has been exhibited at the Islip Art Museum, Everson Museum, Toronto Art Fair, Scope Art Fair, and Fountain Art Fair.
A recipient of the Chashama Studio Residency Program for six years, she has created several large-scale public works, including two collaborative interactive public sculptures for Governors Island, NY and numerous private commissions. Goodman’s work has been featured on the cover of Studio Visit Magazine and received numerous mentions in New American Paintings. Her work has been reviewed by the New York Times and La Nuevo Herald, among other publications.
