In my paintings, there is a synesthesia of color and emotion that comes from the misfit color that combines into a singular color ambiance, matching the desire of the figures’ trials to cope with their indescribable feelings in order to empathize with the world.
About the Artist
Heejo Kim (b. 1995) creates figurative oil paintings, in which she focuses on re-establishing identity and existence through relationships with others and objects. This symbiotic relationship is rooted in the Buddhist belief 'Dependent Arising', which values the interconnectedness of all living things. Heejo creates tender moments through her figures’ bodies and gestures, as a metonym of infinite love. Kim received an MFA from the LeRoy E. Hoffberger School of Painting program at Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, MD in 2023 after receiving a BFA in Painting from Hongik University in Seoul, South Korea in 2018.
