About the Artist

Erin lynn welsh

Erin Lynn Welsh (b. 1984) paints the American landscape and florals from personal photographs taken throughout the United States. Welsh’s paintings fall into two ongoing bodies of work: an ethereal landscape series that investigates ideas of the sublime, and a more aggressive and gestural series that explores the spontaneous nature of mark-making and its convergence and divergence with the unpredictability of nature itself. Her continued interest in the natural, be it landscape or the human form, at times generates synthetic meditations, where the “gestures” of botany are cast in skin tones and saturated colors representing the beauty and violence–past, present, and future–of the American landscape.

Welsh’s work is part of the permanent collections at the US Embassy in Pakistan, Warner Brothers, Felicity House, Dwell studios, Design within Reach, and elsewhere throughout the United States. She has shown at Untitled Art Fair, Pulse Art Fair, Texas Contemporary and Market + Art and Design.

Welsh graduated from Pratt with a BFA in Photography, which underscores the varied and intersecting nature of her painting practice, as well as her conceptual and technical interests. She currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
